Hi - Pam and I moved to New Mexico at the end of May.  I dropped my life of 35 plus or minus years.  A year before I had moved down from my house in the mountains where I had been for 23 years.  After a stretch in the burbs we both felt a huge need to get back to the hills, find a place to land and jump into retirement????? or whatever.  It feels more like getting another opportunity to say, What do I want to do when I grow up?
We had checked out Silver City, NM in March and loved it.  We found a realtor and soon had 5 acres of land with a single wide mobile home on it.  We are a five minute walk from the national forest and a 25 minute drive to town. The pic to the left is the view from our property.  The funny house and porch above is where we lived until our new manufactured home was delivered and ready for us.  What an adventure!  No one had lived in the mobile home for 8 years and the roof leaked badly - and there was more rain this summer than there had been in many years.  Lots of rain!!!
And many, many humming birds!!!!!  We went through 2 gallons each day of syrup for them.  They were very demanding and made us a bit crazy.
A crew brought our house in and put it together.  However, everything took longer than it was supposed to and we did not move in until September.  It has all come together, however, and I scratch my head and wonder how we did it.
Buffy and I took a walk down the wash behind the house to get a couple of other pictures for you to see.  I wish I had taken pictures in August when everything was green.  Now fall colors are beginning and the grasses have gone to seed - and the sky is very blue.
A man named Ruben did the stone work all around the base of the house.  He first went up into the mountains and by hand cut the rock.  He then brought it to our house and, again, all by hand built the wall.  It is beautiful.
